3D-formable paper to replace plastic in tube packaging from AISA
Sweden’s BillerudKorsnäs (Solna; www.billerudkorsnas.com) a manufacturer of fibre-based materials, said it will supply its "FiberForm" line of 3D-formable paper sourced from forests in Scandinavia to Swiss packaging manufacturer AISA Automation Industrielle (Vouvry; www.aisa.com) for a tube packaging collaboration to replace plastic.

AISA plans to use FiberForm to replace up to 70% of the plastic in the functional shoulder of a tube application. The hybrid paper-plastic tube shoulder, together with a tube sleeve made of 85% paper, results in a package composed of more than 80% paper, AISA explained.

FiberForm, said to be a renewable and biodegradable material, is cold-formable, requiring less energy in production than plastics, and allows for deeper embossing than regular paper to impart 3D effects or a tactile feel, according to BillerudKorsnäs. It added that FiberForm helps brand owners reach sustainable packaging goals and achieve product distinction.
