Medical technology specialist building one of world's largest injection moulding plants in US / USD 60m investment
At its facility in Columbus, Nebraska, Becton Dickinson (BD, Franklin Lakes, New Jersey / USA; www.bd.com) is building one of the largest and most advanced injection moulding plants in the world, the company said. The medical technology specialist recently broke ground on the upgrade of the manufacturing facility. It is investing USD 60m in the 6,400 m² expansion, which is expected to be completed by 2021.

"BD is one of the largest users of plastic injection moulded products in the world, with hundreds of billions of units produced internally each year," says James Borzi, executive vice president and chief supply chain officer of BD. In future, a large part of the company's North American plastic moulding production is to be centralised in Columbus-East, and it will also support locations in other countries.

BD employs over 40,000 people worldwide in 50 countries. In 2016, its total revenue was USD 12.5 bn. The BD Medical division is one of the world's leading manufacturers of disposable medical products and also offers injection and infusion technologies. According to the company, BD became the first manufacturer of syringes and needles in the US in 1906.
