Achim Sties has become the new senior vice-president of the global plastic additives business at BASF (Ludwigshafen, Germany; www.basf.com), the company reported.

The former head of plastic additives operations in Europe assumed worldwide responsibility at the beginning of 2023, when the unit’s headquarters was moved to Singapore.

Since beginning his career with BASF in 2005 in Ludwigshafen, the 47-year-old executive with a PhD in economics from the University of Heidelberg has held various positions with the group in Europe and South America.

Explaining the move to Asia, Sties said BASF is combining its resources and expertise for plastic additives worldwide into a global business operation to focus on the increasing challenges. The new Singapore base joins the three previously regionally steered units under one roof. The heads of these businesses are to report directly to Sties.

In 2021, BASF launched a new global brand for sustainable plastic additive solutions under the name Valeras (see Plasteurope.com of 16.07.2021).
