BASF
HALS additives to be introduced at “K 2016” / Applications in automotive interiors and technical construction textiles
BASF (Ludwigshafen / Germany; www.basf.com) is to introduce two stabilisers – “Tinuvin” 880 and “Tinuvin” XT55 – at “K 2016” (www.k-online.de) to be held in Düsseldorf / Germany from 19 to 26 October.

Tinuvin 880 is a methylated hindered amine light stabiliser (HALS), developed to optimise the appearance and performance of automotive interior parts. The additive provides long-lasting UV resistance as well as improved thermal stability in PP, other thermoplastics and styrenics blends found in auto interiors. It is also designed to improve secondary properties by eliminating defects such as mould deposit and surface stickiness, even in scratch-improved materials.

Tinuvin XT55 has been introduced for fibres and tapes used in applications such as technical textiles in the construction industry including geo-textiles, roofing insulation, barrier structures and carpets. In addition to light and thermal stability requirements in these applications, converters are often faced with challenges of industrial manufacturing with processing issues and production halts that can lead to capacity reduction or potential quality inconsistency.

An example is in the manufacturing of PE monofilaments for artificial turfs used to make sport floors or landscaping. Presently, filaments are processed through a water bath where water carryover is regularly experienced on the line leading to production disruption. Tinuvin XT 55 HALS light stabiliser for film, fibres and tapes addresses this problem as it has very low contribution to water carryover, enabling production lines to run without disruptions, the company said.
