BASF
New plant for PA 12 feedstock
BASF (Ludwigshafen, Germany; www.basf.com) has announced it will build a new plant for cyclododecanone (CDon) at its main site in Ludwigshafen. The plant is due to go on stream in 2009, but no capacity details have been revealed. The majority of production volume will go to Ems-Chemie (Herrliberg / Switzerland; www.ems-group.com), with which a long-term supply contract has been signed. CDon is the key feedstock for laurolactam, an intermediate used to produce high-performance PA 12.
