Recycling capacity increase at UK plant / PP and ABS grades from end-of-life cars and E&E equipment

Axion Polymers (Salford / UK; www.axiongroup.co.uk) has invested in its plastics recycling facility in Manchester / UK to raise waste processing capacity and extrusion capability for its 100% recycled polymer grades. The company says this is the first phase of investment in its plans for the shredder waste processing plant.

Additional equipment has been purchased and installed, giving a capacity boost of more than 30% per month and allowing increased volumes of shredder residue from end-of-life vehicles (ELV) and waste electronic and electrical equipment (WEEE) to be processed. The UK company produces “Axpoly” recycled polypropylene and ABS grades and says the greater capacity translates into a 20% increase in recyclate produced per month, although the exact capacity output has not been disclosed. Axion supplies the recyclate to customers from the construction and automotive sectors, where the company is seeing increased demand.

The shredder waste processing facility is operated jointly with S. Norton (Liverpool / UK; www.s-norton.com), a scrap metal recycler that took over Axion Recycling in 2018 – see Plasteurope.com of 04.07.2018. Axion says the plant is one of the most advanced of its type in Europe, having an input capacity of 200,000 t/y of separated non-metallic fractions from the equivalent of about 800,000 cars a year.
