AXION
Recycled composite selected for Trinidad boardwalk
Axion International (Providence, New Jersey / USA; www.axionintl.com) said its recycled structural composites (RSC) will be used to create a beachfront boardwalk in Trinidad. The material, which is made from 100% recycled consumer and industrial plastic, will be used for the first phase of a 2 mile long, low profile boardwalk that will replace a concrete path. Axion said the client, Reddi Solutions, required a material that would not deteriorate or corrode in the salty, tropical climate.

Located in the tourist area of the Chaguaramas peninsula in northwest Trinidad, the boardwalk project is being managed by the Chaguaramas Development Authority (CDA; www.chagdev.com). Steve Silverman, Axion's president and CEO, said, "Reddi Solutions and the CDA chose our products due to the fact that they are impervious to water, bugs, and are chemical-free." The proprietary material is lighter than traditional materials such as wood, steel and concrete, and does not warp, Axion added.
