US compounder and distributor Avient (Avon Lake, Ohio; www.avient.com) launched new grades of its “resound R” recycled content thermoplastic elastomers (rTPE) in Europe, and introduced new versions in North America and Asia, compatible with polycarbonate, ABS and PC/ABS overmoulding.

The European grades include a blend of both post-industrial (PIR) and post-consumer recycled (PCR) polypropylene, recycled oil, and recycled glass filler. The combination of recovered materials allows the company to increase the overall percentage of reclaimed content to more than 80%, said Avient. The material is offered in 30, 50 and 70 Shore A hardness and performs comparable to virgin grades in automotive, personal care and lawn and garden applications.

In North America, Avient launched an rTPE grade containing 30% PIR content at 80 Shore A hardness suitable for consumer electronic applications. In Asia, the range was expanded to include three PIR grades formulated with 20%-60% recycled content, and seven PCR grades containing 9%-39% recycled food packaging; the latter is compatible with PP overmoulding.
