EuPC elects new steering committee members / Discussions on industry concerns / Confirms priorities for Europe
At its recent annual general assembly meeting in Belgium's Bruges, the European Plastics Converters Association (EuPC, Brussels / Belgium; www.plasticsconverters.eu) elected new steering committee members and considered the challenges facing the industry for the near future. This new elected group of members forms the Presidents’ Advisory Committee to ensure continuation of the association’s leadership.

New board members include Frédéric Midy from Aliaxis (Brussels / Belgium; www.aliaxis.com), Sphere's (Paris / France; www.sphere.eu) Björn Hoem, Heinz-Gunther Sauerhoff from Ter Hell (Hamburg / Germany; www.terhell.com), Michael Kundel from Renolit (Worms / Germany; www.renolit.com), Renato Zelcher from Crocco Spa (Cornedo Vicentino / Italy; www.crocco.com), Peter Davies from BPF (London / UK; www.bpf.co.uk), Marc Cornu from Ampacet Europe (Dudelange / Luxembourg; www.ampacet.com) and Bernhard Borgardt from Germany's Industrievereinigung Kunststoffverpackungen (IK, Bad Homburg; www.kunststoffverpackungen.de).

In addition, Marcel de Botton and Aloïs Michielsen were elected EuPC founding presidents and David Williams and Joachim Eckstein are now honorary presidents.

During the annual meeting, a discussion among CEOs from plastics producers and converters confirmed that the European supply base is under some pressures brought about by ongoing changes both regionally and globally. Thus, members agreed to organise a task force on the competitiveness of the European plastics industry to gain a deeper insight on the current situation and where it needs to go.

The association's managing director, Alexandre Dangis, also reiterated the priorities which the EuPC needs to focus on: EU regulatory issues in the context of plastics products in Europe, including the "Green Paper" on plastics with more attention on recycling (see Plasteurope.com from 12.03.2013); the marine litter debates as well as global polymer trade issues for ensuring a continuous supply of polymers for the European converting industry, an issue that is becoming increasingly important.

Finally, the association calls on the EU Commission, EU member states and the European Parliament to pursue an ultimate goal of raising the industry's GDP share by 4% reaching roughly 20% by 2020. This will ensure a more competitive plastics industry in Europe.
