Impact of fire and force majeure in Marl / Earliest restart for BDO and THF production in late September
After the fire on 10 August at the Marl Chemical Park (www.chemiepark-marl.de) in Germany, and subsequent declaration of a force majeure on 1,4-butanediol (BDO), tetrahydrofuran (THF) and formaldehyde (see Plasteurope.com of 14.08.2017), Ashland (Dublin, Ohio / USA; www.ashland.com) subsidiary ISP Marl estimates that production will not be resumed until the end of September at the earliest. The company's delivery capacity is likely to remain constrained until the first quarter of 2018. Ashland estimates the loss associated with the incident to be from USD 15m to USD 20m.
