Acquisition of ACI Rockware / Increases position in European rigid packaging
As part of its strategy to focus on the pharmaceutical and cosmetic packaging markets, Alusuisse-Lonza Group (PO Box 495, CH-8034 Zürich) has acquired ACI Rockware Ltd (Skerne Road, Kingston upon Thames, GB-Surrey KT2 5AE) from Rockware Group Ltd and BTR Industries Ltd, a subsidiary of BTR PLC. The deal includes its UK plants in Norwich and Kingston, which are specialised in injection and blow moulding of pharmaceutical and cosmetic packaging. Its 1996 sales were GBP 17m.
Last year Alusuisse-Lonza (A-L) acquired the US-based Wheaton Inc (Millville, New Jersey / USA), a leading supplier of glass and plastics packaging for the pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries. ACI is already a licensee of Wheaton technology and it will be integrated into A-L's UK rigid plastics business, which forms part of Lawson Mardon Wheaton (LMW), the pharmaceutical and cosmetics packaging division of A-L. Annual sales for LMW were CHF 1.2bn.
