ALIAXIS
Consolidation of UK manufacturing activities in Kent / Completion is scheduled for late 2010
Aliaxis (Brussels / Belgium; www.aliaxis.com), one of the leading European manufacturers of pipe and associated systems for fluid transfer, plans to consolidate a major part of its UK manufacturing activities at Lenham, Kent, by 2010. The programme will begin in the spring of this year with the transfer of the injection moulding and associated assembly operations of Hunter Plastics from Woolwich, southeast London, to the site of Marley Plumbing and Drainage in Lenham, Kent. The transfer affects 90 of the 250 staff at Woolwich, along with some 40 injection moulding machines. The site will then be solely a storage and distribution centre.
The second phase will be the relocation of the Durapipe manufacturing and logistics operations from the site in Cannock, Staffordshire, to Marley at Lenham. Durapipe produces technical thermoplastic pipework systems, including products made from PP, ABS and cPVC. The Aliaxis manufacturing plant of GPS Pipes in Huntingdon will be unaffected by the changes. Aliaxis owns 100 companies and employs 15,000 staff. It made a pretax profit of EUR 251m on a turnover of EUR 2.4 bn in 2007.
