EFSA expands "Weston 705" approval / Nonylphenol-free stabiliser for food-contact applications
US speciality additives supplier Addivant (Danbury, Connecticut; www.addivant.com) has announced that the European Food Standards Agency (EFSA; www.efsa.europa.eu) has expanded the approval for the nonylphenol-free stabiliser "Weston 705" to a broader range of food-contact uses. The approval increases Weston 705’s specific migration limit (SML) to 10 mg/kg.

The company says that Weston 705 is a "perfect" stabilisation solution for demanding food applications such as fatty food or alcohol content packaging. Tested against stringent food-contact standards, Addivant added that Weston 705 is the only antioxidant for plastics with a fully tested non-intentionally added substances (NIAS) profile. In addition, the additive is the only alternative to nonylphenol-free liquid phosphite antioxidants, with food-contact approvals in the US, Canada, China and Europe.
