PLASTIC FANTASTIC
GoPro under attack, thanks to EPS
Everybody has heard of them, seen footage on YouTube, and many people have one. The GoPro camera, a beloved companion to every extreme sportsperson has become the ultimate symbol of adventure tourism. As big as four matchboxes and waterproof, it is virtually unbreakable and can be seen on helmets and boards throughout the world, from the steep slopes of the Alps to the wild waters of Pacific Beach in San Diego.
And now it’s also showing up in the muzzles of crocodiles. Photographer Trevor Frost used remote-controlled boats with GoPros strapped onto them to film a reptile’s attack from a first-person perspective. Notably, he used EPS to house and protect the cameras from the incredible bite forces of 350 kg/cm2 that crocodiles possess. Nine attacks were filmed, not a single GoPro broke. Now that is a durable material!
