POLYMERS FOR EUROPE ALLIANCE
"Best Polymer Producers Awards for Europe 2017": Ceremony in Madrid / Borealis wins the special category of delivery reliability / Marsh: "Major opportunity for a better dialogue"
At this year's EuPC and ANAIP annual meeting held from 1 - 2 June in Madrid / Spain (see Plasteurope.com of 09.06.2017), the Polymers for Europe Alliance (www.polymercomplyeurope.eu/pce-services/polymers-europe-allliance) presented its "Best Polymer Producers Awards for Europe" for the second time running. This European-wide customer satisfaction survey reflects the winners' contribution to the plastics value chain. Between February and May 2017, all polymer consumers were able to assess their suppliers' performance in the period since June 2016 – taking the five criteria of polymer quality, compliance, delivery reliability, communication and innovation – in a freely accessible and strictly confidential online vote.

This time, a total of eight plastics producers received the sought-after award, seven in the categories for the individual standard-grade polymers and one for the overarching award for delivery reliability. This special award went to Borealis (Vienna / Austria; www.borealisgroup.com), with a satisfaction rating of 80%.

The winner for HDPE was Repsol (Madrid / Spain; www.repsol.com) with a satisfaction rating of 92%. In the LDPE and LLDPE categories, the winner was Dow Chemical (Midland, Michigan / USA; www.dow.com), with an overall score of 83% and 90%, respectively. The award for PP went to Sabic (Riyadh / Saudi Arabia; www.sabic.com) with a rating of 82%. In the case of PET, Lotte Chemical (Seoul / South Korea; www.lotte.co.kr) came first (at 78%). Inovyn (London; www.inovyn.com) won the award for best PVC supplier – as had been the case a year earlier (86% against 82.5% in 2016). Trinseo (Berwyn, Pennsylvania / USA; www.trinseo.com) emerged as best PS supplier (81%). When it came to feedback from the plastics producers, Sabic, for instance, stressed that the award honoured the company's contribution to resolving the challenges faced by its customers in the plastics industry. This meant aligning its global innovation capabilities to customer requirements while keeping an eye on the market at the same time.

Compared with the award winners for 2016, there were a number of shifts in the ranking, plus new first-time winners (see Plasteurope.com of 09.06.2016). And this year, 25% more converters participated in the online survey than the first time around.

Ron Marsh, chairman of the Polymers for Europe Alliance, considers that these awards offer an excellent opportunity for re-establishing a constructive dialogue and good communication between the suppliers and users of polymers in Europe. As EuPC managing director Alexandre Dangis explained when speaking to Plasteurope.com in Madrid, the results of the survey were both reliable and credible. This award, which was launched last year, is serving to raise the producers' awareness of the concerns of the European plastics conversion sector. It is planned to extend the award to the suppliers of engineering thermoplastics in future.

The opening date for the next "Best Polymer Producers Awards for Europe 2018" survey is being announced in September. The online voting will once again be staged on the Polymer Comply Europe website (www.polymercomplyeurope.eu).
