SOLVAY
Sale of Neolor business to China / Refocus on high-end automotive and electronics
Belgian chemicals and plastics producer Solvay (Brussels; www.solvay.com) completed the sale of its “Neolor” business to Baotou Hongbo Te Technology (HBT, Rare Earth Application Industrial Park, Inner Mongolia / China) at the end of 2016. Following the divestment, the company said its Special Chem Global Business Unit (GBU) will refocus its activities on selective high value-added segments in the growing automotive and electronics markets.
The sale of the business, which produces orange and red pigments, includes key production equipment and the exclusive use of specially designed equipment as well as intellectual property and marketing know-how.
Solvay Special Chem claims world leadership in selected specialities based on fluorine, rare earths, strontium and barium. Its Neolor portfolio comprises a range of rare earths-based inorganic plastic colouration pigments offering heat and weather resistance, UV absorption and infra-red reflection properties in conjunction with heat stability, migration resistance and light stability. The products are used in commodity and engineering plastics, including PP, PA, PC, ABS, ABS/ASA, ASA/PC, PC/PBT, ABS/PA and PU, along with polysulphides.
The former Solvay business also supplies specialised products and solutions to various other industries, including rare earths-based formulations for automotive catalysts, luminophores and polishing as well as fluxes for automotive heat exchangers. The portfolio also includes foam blowing agents for thermal insulation foams.
