Metallocene PE resin introduced for production of improved shrink films
ExxonMobil Chemical (Baytown, Texas / USA; www.exxonmobil.com) has introduced “Enable” 40-02 metallocene polyethylene (mPE) resin for the production of collation shrink films with a combination of stiffness, tensile and holding force, and improved shrink performance, allowing the production of thinner, stronger films for tight bundling and uniform shrink.

The material offers opportunities for significant downgauging with improved clarity and gloss, while also improving mechanical properties, the company said. Value can be achieved across the customer chain through performance improvements and downgauging, which delivers lower resin and energy consumption – compared to the next best alternative. Less manufacturing and post-consumer waste can also be realised because of this high integrity collation shrink packaging, the US company said.

High stability helps to ensure products are securely packed, while a balance between packaging strength and ease of opening is possible through adjusting the film formulation. The new Enable material is suitable for consumer products as bottled beverages, canned goods, health, beauty or cleaning products.
