Medical TPE producer Elasto Sweden (Åmål / Sweden; www.elastotpe.com) has started production on a new medical line and expansion at its technical centre in Åmål. The company, a subsidiary of compounding group Hexpol (Malmö / Sweden; www.hexpol.com), announced the planned expansion in July 2014 – see Plasteurope.com of 21.07.2014. Up to now, the TPE capacity at Åmål was around 14,000 t/y.
The new line in Sweden will be part of the company’s continued focus on medical TPE and supports the sales growth of “Mediprene” TPE compounds for medical applications. Mediprene TPE is claimed to offer many advantages for medical device applications as it is sterilisable with gamma rays, ethylene oxide and steam.
Mediprene TPE is PVC, silicone and latex free, making it allergen-free and a viable alternative to PVC-based compounds, Elasto said. Applications include medical tubing, IV systems, catheters, respiratory equipment, syringe plunger seals and wound care products.
