Acquisition of Germany's Mondi Osterburken plant / Expansion with laminate and label films
On 22 July, Polifilm Extrusion (Wermelskirchen / Germany; www.polifilm.de) signed an agreement to take over the German company Mondi Osterburken (Osterburken; www.mondigroup.com). The purchase price was not disclosed. The acquisition is subject to regulatory approval so that the actual closure could take several months, a Polifilm spokesperson told Plasteurope.com.

The production site in Osterburken is regarded as a leader in laminate and label films. “In combination with Mondi Osterburken, we can offer our customers an even broader product portfolio and extended product development possibilities. The group’s excellent technological know-how will in future provide numerous possibilities for sustainable profitable growth,” said Jörg Wingefeld, head of the Technical Films division at Polifilm, explaining the background behind the acquisition.

The plant in Osterburken was founded in 1987 as NF-Folien, and the majority holding was acquired in 1998 by the then Nordenia International. When Nordenia was taken over by Mondi (Johannesburg / South Africa; www.mondigroup.com), the Osterburken facility moved to the globally operating paper and packaging company (see Plasteurope.com Web of 12.07.2012), which is now passing it on to Polifilm. The product portfolio in Osterburken covers among other things film packaging for coffee, soups, diapers, surface protection film, coextruded film for light-sensitive products and films for horizontal and vertical form-fill-seal applications (FFS). Apart from that, the range includes peel films, cling film for direct food contact, films for coaters, label films and films for industrial laminate products.

Polifilm describes itself as one of the leading German manufacturers of extrusion and protective films and has around 1,400 employees worldwide with 16 branches on all continents.
