New Swedish Oxo plant up and running / Company now fully integrated upstream
Swedish speciality chemicals producer Perstorp (Perstorp; www.perstorp.com) has recently commissioned its new Oxo plant at its primary facility in Stenungsund / Sweden. Producing aldehydes and derivatives, the extension represents the company’s largest plant investment ever and has increased total Oxo capacity by 150,000 t/y, making Perstop a fully integrated supplier of plasticisers. The company says it has already begun the production of prime material.
The group's new executive vice president of operations, Magnus Lanner, explained that Perstop is now able to produce n-valeric acid and 2-propyl heptanol (2-PH), which are key intermediates for lubricants, adhesives and surfactants, making it fully integrated into the upstream. Within the synthetic lubricants market segment, the Swedes have built a reputation as a supplier of key intermediates and specialised products.
Jerker Olsson, vice president of the Oxo business unit, stated that the production extension has been built to the “highest environmental and safety standards” giving the company “the most up-to-date and competitive plasticiser production platform.” No cost was given for the investment.
