Monolayer PET packaging introduced for meat and poultry trays
Plastic tray and container manufacturer Faerch Plast (Holstebro / Denmark; www.faerchplast.com) has introduced “Mapet II" mono amorphous PET packaging, made from post-consumer recycled material and developed for the manufacture of trays for meat and poultry. Produced from one substrate, the company says the material is set to compete against containers produced in multi-layers and will provide improved potential for sorting and recycling.

Faerch Plast says the new packaging product has the same properties as multi-layer materials, with improved clarity and enhanced sealability compared with its predecessor “Mapet I". Instead of adding a top layer, a small amount of adhesive suitable for food packaging applications around the rim of each tray ensures that it can be sealed easily, the company said. The quantity of adhesive, developed by Faerch Plast and approved for direct contact with food at temperatures up to 40°C, is so low that there is no contamination of the waste stream.
