SOLVAY
Changshu specialty polymers compounds plant commissioned
The EUR 21m specialty polymers compounds plant operated by Solvay Speciality Polymers – a subsidiary of Belgium’s Solvay (Brussels; www.solvay.com) – in Changshu / China started up production ahead of schedule in mid-July 2012 (for more details, see Plasteurope.com of 13.10.2010). Output of the plant is to go towards meeting growing regional demand for specialty polymers compounds “Amodel” polyphthalamide (PPA), “Ixef” polyacrylamide (PARA) and “Kalix” modified PARA, used in electronic, automotive, consumer and industrial applications.

Solvay said the facility, which is located next to a polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) plant the group is currently building at the site (see Plasteurope.com of 28.06.2011), can be expanded at a future date. In addition, the new plant is adaptable to the production of compounds made out of other high-performance polymers.
