US toy group commits to eliminating PVC in new product packaging
In its first ever corporate social responsibility report, US toy maker Hasbro (Pawtucket, Rhode Island; www.hasbro.com) has announced plans to eliminate all PVC from its new core toy and game packaging by early 2013. Part of a long series of sustainable packaging initiatives, including the goal of producing zero waste in US manufacturing processes, the group said it had already begun phasing out PVC and was committed to eliminating its use completely.

Commenting on the decision, Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner said, “At a time when consumers have an abundance of choices, we hope our track record of innovation and corporate citizenship will give shoppers one more reason to choose our products during the holiday season and throughout the year.” Hasbro is the company behind such names as “Transformers”, “My Little Pony”, “G.I. Joe” as well as board games, including “Monopoly”.
