New PET flake separating systems to be used in Eco Plastics' expanded UK facility
Titech (Mühlheim-Kärlich / Germany; www.titech.com) is supplying its “AutoSort” flake systems technology for a new GBP 15m (EUR 17.5m) expansion of PET bottle production planned by a joint venture of Eco Plastics (Hemswell, Lincolnshire / UK; www.ecoplasticsltd.com) with beverage giant Coca Cola– for more details, see Plasteurope.com of 26.09.2011.

When installed, the five new systems will allow sorting of PET flake by material and colour simultaneously while at the same time increasing the UK company’s capacity for food-grade recycled PET to 40,000 t/y. This is equivalent to nearly 70% of total UK output.

Eco Plastics will use the new equipment based on bespoke spectrometer technology at its Hemswell / UK plant to sort PET flake to previously unattainable standards of quality and purity, said the company’s managing director Jonathan Short. Since the facility’s start-up in 2010, some 20 Titech units have been employed to sort mixed plastics wastes.
