STYRON
Company name to change to Trinseo later this year
After having been spun off by Dow Chemical (Midland, Michigan / USA; www.dow.com) last year – see Plasteurope.com of 21.06.2010 – the chemical giant’s erstwhile styrenics business Styron (Midland, Michigan / USA; www.styron.com) has announced plans to change its name to Trinseo later this year. Company CEO Chris Pappas explained the decision by saying: “The name Styron is strongly tied to the styrenics chain – particularly polystyrene and styrene monomer, which are an important part of our company – but we are much more than that. Our new name of Trinseo will communicate that we are leaders in a broader range of businesses, products and technologies, and it underscores our commitment to growth.” The “Styron” brand will continue to be used as a trade name for polystyrene products.
The name Trinseo contains the words “intrinsic” and the Latin verb “eo” (to go), conveying “the concept that the company’s products and technology deliver ‘intrinsic’ value” to its customers, Styron explained the rationale behind the new name.
