Start-up of chlorine production / PVC line on stream in December / Ethylene and HDPE plants back in operation
Russian oil group Lukoil (Moscow; www.lukoil.com) has announced that its subsidiary Karpatnaftochim (Kalush / Ukraine; www.knh.com.ua) officially dedicated the new electromembrane chlorine plant at its Ukrainian site on 11 November. It has capacities for 200,000 t/y of caustic soda and 180,000 t/y of chlorine. The chlorine will feed the new PVC line at the Ukrainian site, which will now definitely commence production in December 2010 with a capacity of 300,000 t/y – see Plasteurope.com of 15.04.2010.

Lukoil also reported that production in the C2 chain – around 250,000 t/y of ethylene and 100,000 t/y of HDPE – in Kalush resumed in August. The plants had been idled during the global economic crisis towards the end of 2008 and were then overhauled. The first deliveries were made in October 2010.
