Belgian chemicals and plastics giant Solvay (B-1050 Brussels; www.solvay.com ) has started up its first industrial PVC recycling plant using the “Vinyloop” technology (see also www.vinyloop.com) at its Ferrara, Italy, production site. The EUR 10.6m facility, capable of regenerating PVC from at least 10,000 t/y of waste material, will be operated by Vinyloop Ferrara Italia, a four-way partnership of SolVin (www.solvin.com), Solvay´s joint venture with BASF, along with Adria, Technometal and Vulcaflex. Materials processed will be primarily PVC insulation from electric cables. At least 80% will be post-consumer waste.
