UPONOR
Extron Engineering subsidiary sold to Mecano / Technology development deal signed
Uponor Infra Oy, part of Finnish pipe manufacturer Uponor (Vantaa; www.uponor.com), has sold its wholly-owned subsidiary Extron Engineering Oy to Mecano Oy (Lahti / Finland; www.mecanor.com). Extron Engineering employs 19 people at its premises in Toijala and posted net sales of EUR 5.6m in 2014.

The two companies have also signed a co-operation agreement to further develop certain (undisclosed) key technologies. Both Extron Engineering and Mecano design and manufacture machinery for plastic products.

In future, Uponor Infra will continue to license and sell technologies relevant to the infrastructure sector. Its decision to sell Extron was based on its strategy to focus on core businesses and markets where it can command a strong position and achieve operational synergies. Uponor has streamlined several of its businesses over the course of the last year, including significant job cuts in Finland (for most recent coverage, see Plasteurope.com of 05.08.2014).
