On 1 October 2012, South African packaging and paper group Mondi (Johannesburg; www.mondigroup.com) announced that after having met all necessary conditions, its takeover of 99.93% of the shares in German film and packaging manufacturer Nordenia International (Greven; www.nordenia.com) had been completed – see also Plasteurope.com of 12.07.2012. In the end, Mondi paid EUR 259m in cash to former owner Oaktree Capital Management (Los Angeles, California / USA; www.oaktreecapital.com).

The acquisition creates one of the world’s leading consumer packaging businesses, bringing Nordenia into Mondi’s global production network that spans 29 different countries and which generates sales of EUR 5.7 bn in 2011. As part of the transaction, the "Nordenia" company name will be replaced by "Mondi", and the group will now operate as Mondi Consumer Packaging International.
