TEKNOR APEX
TPEs introduced in low and high density grades / High colourability / Launch planned for “Fakuma” 2015
A range of TPEs, developed to provide consumer products with vivid colour, improved tactile properties and soft-grip ergonomics has been introduced by custom compounder Teknor Apex (Pawtucket, Rhode Island / USA; www.teknorapex.com).
“Monprene” CP series compounds offer a broad range of physical properties and improved mouldability and are available in two series: 10,100 low-density compounds, with specific gravity of 0.89, and 11,100 high-density compounds, with specific gravity of 1.15. Initially, each series is available in six grades with Shore A hardness ranging from 40 to 90.
All grades are suitable for skin contact, are resistant to cosmetics and household chemicals and offer high colourability, the company said. When over-moulded onto a rigid substrate, they provide a soft grip with ergonomic benefits. The company recommends the compounds for applications including grips, handles, cushions, anti-skid, anti-vibration, knobs and buttons in products such as writing instruments, sporting goods, appliances, tools, personal care items and flexible or soft items such as toys.
The company will introduce the compounds at “Fakuma” industry fair (www.fakuma-messe.de), to be held in Friedrichshafen / Germany from 13 to 17 October.
