Adding to its transparent speciality portfolio, Styrolution (Frankfurt / Germany; www.styrolution.com) in late July launched three new “Zylar” methyl methacrylate-butadiene-styrene copolymer grades. The grades, “Zylar 650”, “Zylar 245” and “Zylar 765”, are all produced at the company’s plant in Schwarzheide / Germany. The latest additions give the company’s customers greater supply security, in particular since in Q4 this year, Styrolution’s plant in Ludwigshafen / Germany will also commence Zylar production. Improved availability worldwide is part of the company’s “triple shift” strategy – for details, see Plasteurope.com of 11.12.2013.
Like all members of the Zylar family, the new grades are also characterised by water clear transparency, high flowability, good chemical resistance as well as customisable toughness, Styrolution said, adding that they are used across a range of industries, including healthcare, household, sports and leisure as well as packaging. The majority of the portfolio is FDA approved for food contact, the company added.
Whereas “Zylar 245” is said to boast high clarity, good scratch resistance and excellent stiffness – making it suitable for applications requiring practical toughness – Styrolution said “Zylar 765” combines clarity and high impact resistance, making it the material of choice for applications requiring greater material strength.
