SABIC
HDPE grade developed for large containers in healthcare applications
Sabic (Riyadh / Saudi Arabia; www.sabic.com), in cooperation with German industrial packaging specialist Mauser (Brühl; www.mausergroup.com), has developed a grade of HDPE intended to meet the demands required in the production of large containers used in healthcare applications. Sabic said that HDPE “PCG4906” is suitable for products such as jerry cans, open-head and tight-head drums and IBCs, as well as blow moulded bottles.

The material meets relevant European and American pharmaceutics requirements and has the physical and mechanical properties required for the production of containers with volumes up to 1.000 litres. The first drums produced by Mauser in the new grade meet requirements based on UN recommendations covering transport of dangerous goods, these include performance in stacking, drop tests at -18°C, and hydraulic internal pressure tests.
