Helm named European distributor for renewable succinic acid / New plant on stream by year end
Reverdia, the joint venture of DSM (Sittard / The Netherlands; www.dsm.com) and French starch and derivatives producer Roquette Frères (Lestrem; www.roquette.com), has signed an agreement with German chemical distributor Helm (Hamburg; www.helmag.de) to distribute and jointly develop the market for the company’s bio-based succinic acid – see Plasteurope.com of 04.04.2012.
The jv expects to begin commercial production of its renewable succinic acid by the end of 2012. The new 10,000 t/y plant at Cassano Spinola / Italy will be “first in the world,” the company said. Reverdia has tested the process since early 2010 in a 300 t/y demonstration plant at Lestrem / France. The acid is produced through a proprietary yeast-based fermentation process.
