PLASTIC FANTASTIC
Coca-Cola divorces style
The contours of the Coca-Cola bottle have been shaping the aesthetic sensibilities of our drinks for almost 110 years. The sweeping belly, slender neck, and continuous beading for a non-slip feel – for generations of fizz lovers, the design was nothing short of iconic.

It is, however, the end of an era, as the US beverage giant has decided to dispense with the vertical indentations in its 1-litre PET bottles. The plastic container now stands naked, bare and smooth as an eel. At first, it looked like a single preform blank had been blown out of shape. On careful consideration, it became apparent that the neutered packaging is in fact intentional.

In case the people of Atlanta are reading this – stop, this is sacrilege! We demand you take your hands off the riffle.
