Just days after the European Union’s official ban on PC baby feeding bottles came into effect – see Plasteurope.com of 29.11.2010 – the Chinese authorities appear to be mulling a ban of their own. As reported by news agency Xinhua, Chinese officials have started researching the dissolution volume of the controversial substance bisphenol A (BPA) in baby bottles to determine its impact of health.
The move comes a month after the Chinese Health Ministry issued a draft list of legal substances in food packaging on its website. In the draft, Xinhua reports, BPA was banned from vessels having direct contact with baby food.
The EU ban will be extended to all imports of PC baby bottles in June.
