Dow announces executive leadership reshuffle / Fitterling to oversee Business Operations / Ungerleider named new CFO / Harlan appointed chief commercial officer
Dow Chemical (Midland, Michigan / USA; www.dow.com) has announced a number of new executive leadership appointments aimed at maintaining its “aggressive focus on executing against its strategic priorities to deliver sustainable earnings growth and increasingly reward shareholder.” All personnel changes are due to take effect on 1 October.

James R. Fitterling has been named vice chairman of Business Operations, with executive oversight of the group’s Packaging and Specialty Plastics, Elastomers, Polyurethanes, Epoxy, Specialty Chemicals and Chemicals segments, among others. His new job will include managing the company’s efforts to divest its chlorine, chlorinated organics and Epoxy businesses (see also Plasteurope.com of 05.12.2013). Fitterling succeeds David E. Kepler, who will go into retirement.
Meanwhile, with William H. Weideman retiring, Howard I. Ungerleider has been named chief financial officer, and will also retain executive oversight of the group’s presence in Latin America. Ungerleider last served as executive vice president of Dow’s Advanced Materials division (see Plasteurope.com of 06.09.2012).
Last but not least, Joe E. Harlan will assume the position of chief commercial officer and vice chairman of Dow’s Market Businesses. His responsibilities will include oversight for the group’s Automotive Systems, Coating Materials and Performance Monomers businesses, among others. In addition, he has been tasked with driving the company’s global market and sales strategy and organisation, while maintaining executive oversight of its presence in Asia Pacific.
