New stabilised phthalate-free plasticiser incorporates Addivant speciality antioxidant
German oxo intermediates and derivatives producer Oxea (Oberhausen; www.oxea-chemicals.com) has introduced a new phthalate-free plasticiser designed for applications requiring extremely low volatility. Sold under the “Oxsoft TOTM ST” brand name, the trioctyl trimellitate or tri2-ethylhexyl trimellitate (TOTM) is stabilised with “Lowinox CA22”, a high-performance speciality antioxidant developed by Addivant (Middlebury, Connecticut / USA; www.addivant.com).
Thanks to the stabiliser, Oxsoft TOTM ST is said to provide even more robust extraction resistance, capable of sustaining colour quality throughout a longer lifecycle and enables additional thermal stability during the manufacturing process, Oxea said. Key applications for the new plasticiser – which is already available in commercial quantities – include cables, wires and coated fabrics.
