German recycler welcomes new EuCertPlast standard as a basis for fair competition
German plastics recycler mtm plastics (Niedergebra; www.mtm-plastics.eu) has welcomed the new EuCertPlast certification standard introduced by European plastic processing and recycling companies and associations in early July to ensure a European-wide standard – see also Plasteurope.com of 18.07.2012. “With this, hopefully the regionalism in the certification practice will soon come to an end,” said mtm CEO Michael Scriba. Before the new regime was introduced, European recyclers had to be audited several times a year to meet the different countries’ inspection requirements.
Although the criteria are stricter than those of the German authorities, Scriba highlighted the advantages of the new regulation framework for recycled plastics, saying that “if they are enforced, all competitors in Europe will compete at the same level.” That is the reason why mtm plastics hopes the new regime is quickly accepted throughout Europe.
