Plastics revenues rise in H1 2015 / Stake in French business adds food packaging expertise
Increased revenues in the plastics processing business have helped to boost first-half 2015 group operating profit (EBITDA) for Belgian coffee specialist and packaging company Miko (Oud-Turnhout; www.mikocoffee.com). EBITDA was 9.1% higher at EUR 12.5m on turnover of EUR 93.8m, 11.5% up on the first half of 2014.
Plastics revenue increased by 15.9% year on year to reach EUR 48.2m, with the segment accounting for 51.4% of total turnover. Sales increased for both injection moulding and thermoformed packaging, and were further strengthened by revenues at joint venture partner Innoware (Jakarta; www.innowareindonesia.co.id) in Indonesia. At the same time, a key contract concluded in 2014 for the German market achieved full flow. Miko invested EUR 3.1m in its plastics business during the period.
Within the plastics segment, Miko Pac NV acquired a 55% stake in Miko Pac France (Vern-sur-Seiche) – formerly Plastic Force France – through a capital increase. The other shareholder already has several years’ experience in plastic packaging for the food industry and Miko said the collaboration will provide access to its in-depth market knowledge.
