Metyx Composites' (Istanbul / Turkey; www.metyx.com) management centre, including its purchasing, sales and finance departments, has moved to a larger building in Istanbul that reflects its strong growth in recent years. The specialist for technical fabrics reinforced with aramid, carbon and glass fibres, was founded in 2003 as part of the textile group Telateks. After completion of its plant extension in Kaposvar / Hungary (see Plasteurope.com of 20.11.2013), the company also wants to expand production in Istanbul by 2018 (see Plasteurope.com of 27.07.2016).

During the past two years, Metyx has heavily invested in the 12,000 m² Hungarian plant. Both capacity and supply have been enlarged, especially with an eye toward European customers. Metyx Composites Hungary produces multiaxial reinforcements and fabrics made of E-glass and carbon fibres as well as hybrids from both. At the moment, around 3,000 t/y of fibres can be processed. In addition, ready-made core materials kits, with PVC, PET, balsa wood and PU, are produced.

Metyx presented its latest developments during the "JEC World 2017" trade fair, including its fire retardant reinforcement fabrics "Metycore FS" (Fire Shield) and "Metycoremax FS", which are compatible for all common matrix materials. Both are aimed for use in the rail sector and are currently undergoing a final test for the new EN 45 545 fire safety certification. There is also a new "webbed" carbon fibre fabric that has a thin thermoplastic coating and promises more resistance to deformation during layup.
