LYONDELLBASELL
Large-scale PO plant to be brought on stream on US Gulf Coast / Capturing shale gas for PU production
Taking advantage of the region’s shale gas reserves, LyondellBasell (Houston, Texas / USA; www.lyondellbasell.com) has announced plans to build a new 410,000 t/y propylene oxide (PO) and 900,000 t/y tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA) plant on the US Gulf Coast. The exact location of the facility, which is due to start up in 2019, remains unclear, the company said.
Once on stream, the plant will sell PO globally, to meet rising demand for polyurethanes, used among others in the bedding, furniture, carpets and car seat markets.
