KLÖCKNER PENTAPLAST
Films producer opens innovation centre in Spain for food and consumer packaging
Klöckner Pentaplast (kp, Montabaur / Germany; www.kpfilms.com) has opened a competence centre in Sant Cugat / Spain, near Barcelona. The "kp i. center", located in a vibrant destination of the Spanish food industry, provides collaborative space to help global food and consumer products (FCP) customers to bring products to market faster and more efficiently. The centre is to support commercial, technical and operational leaders to immerse themselves in idea sharing, leading to the discovery of innovative packaging solutions.
The centre combines a dedicated area resourced with marketing, sales and R&D experts together with laboratory, prototyping facilities, a supermarket and an FCP market research centre. According to kp, the centre has integrated industrial and technical capabilities to deliver a full experience, from concept to production of a packing solution.
The centre also hosts a customer inspiration area, a supermarket and a kitchen. "The idea is to demonstrate how packaging looks on a shelf or counter in store, emulating real consumer experiences for our customers," said Helene Roberts, director FCP Marketing & Innovation.
In the space totalling 1,200 m², customers can make use of the form, fill, seal machine and thermosealers in the trial area. Working together with the kp team, customers will be able to test and assess designs in real-time. A "Multivac MAP" (modified atmosphere packaging) and an "Erca Dairy" line are already installed, and more equipment is to follow.
