INDORAMA
Follow-up: Purchase of Bangkok Polyester concluded / Larger footprint in both Thailand and Japan
Indorama Ventures (IVL, Bangkok / Thailand; www.indoramaventures.com) has successfully completed the acquisition of PET polymers producer Bangkok Polyester PCL (www.bpc.co.th) – for previous coverage, see Plasteurope.com of 23.03.2015. IVL – which is the world’s PET market leader – said the purchase raises its PET capacity share in Thailand from 43% to 58%. Bangkok Polyester’s plant in Rayong / Thailand has a nameplate capacity of 105,000 t/y, Plasteurope.com’s Polyglobe capacity database (www.polyglobe.net) shows.
The latest company to join IVL, Bangkok Polyester exports a lot of its output to Japan, and will thus raise Indorama’s market share in the country it says is currently the world’s largest importer of PET. More importantly, there are zero import duties for materials sourced from Thailand. In addition, the purchase is in line with IVL’s strategy of vertical integration since Bangkok Polyester’s plant is located nearby IVL’s PTA facility in Rayong.
