Purchase of Thai PET producer Bangkok Polyester / Global market leader continues to consolidate
After a recent spate of purchases in Europe, including Polyplex’s (Gautam Budh Nagar / India; www.polyplex.com) plant in Corlu / Turkey (see Plasteurope.com of 09.03.2015), global PET market leader Indorama Ventures (IVL, Bangkok / Thailand; www.indoramaventures.com) will now make an acquisition in its home country Thailand. In a filing to the stock exchange dated 18 March, the company said its Indorama Petrochem subsidiary intends to acquire 94.91% of the shares in PET polymers producer Bangkok Polyester PCL (www.bpc.co.th). Financial details of the deal, which is expected to close in Q2, were not disclosed.

A look at Plasteurope.com’s Polyglobe capacity database (www.polyglobe.net) shows that Bangkok Polyester can turn out 105,000 t/y of PET at its plant in Rayong / Thailand.
