UK plastic scrap trader opens new 20,000 t/y recycling facility / Regrind output earmarked for Europe
UK-based scrap plastics trading company GFSL (Durham; www.gfsl.eu) has touted plans to open a new 20,000 t/y mixed rigid plastic waste recycling plant in Redcar / UK. Speaking to Plasteurope.com, a company representative said the GBP 2m (EUR 2.4m) facility had already begun trial operations and is expected to reach full output by March this year.
Fed by civic amenity sites, skips, waste management firms and other UK and Ireland-based suppliers, the facility will create PP, PE and PVC regrind to be used in a range of applications, from furniture to pipes and pallets. The new recycling plant will create 17 new jobs in the short term, and is expected to add 10 more once production reaches full nameplate capacity.
Commenting on the new facility, GFSL director Martin Robb said, "There has been a lot of interest in the finished product from the UK, Europe and further afield, and we are looking forward to increasing production over the next two months."
