The Packaging & Industrial Polymers division of DuPont (Wilmington, Delaware / USA; www.dupont.com) has announced a series of investments exceeding USD 100m to raise ethylene copolymers output at its plants in Texas / USA. The funds will be spread over the next 3-4 years, the company said, adding that it expects that about one-third of the investment will be installed by the end of next year.

DuPont did not specify nameplate capacities, saying the move was prompted by rising demand for its ethylene copolymers portfolio, which includes “Surlyn” ionomer resins, “Nucrel” ethylene acid copolymer resins, “Elvaloy” ethylene copolymer resins, “Vamac” ethylene acrylic elastomers and special grades of its “Elvax” EVA copolymers. Key applications for the grades in question include food packaging, the automotive sector as well as the industrial segment.
