A little more than two years after Italian PET recycler Dentis (Sant'Albano Stura; www.dentispet.it) purchased Pet Compañía (Chiva / Spain; www.petcia.es) in March 2011, the company recently re-opened the facility, located 31 kms outside of Valencia, with Alberto Fabra Part, head of the Valencian government, on hand to help dedicate the renovated plant. In his speech at the opening ceremonies, he stated that Spain's 70% recycling rate making it one of the leaders in European recycling. According to Spain government statistics, in 2012, the country recycled close to 150,000 t of plastics waste.

The four-month remodeling project by the Italian recycling specialists, located 60 kms south of Turin, has transformed the old factory into what local media reports are describing as "one of the most modern and largest PET recycling facilities in Europe". The plant now has capacity exceeding 30,000 t/y of used PET bottles, according to local media. As of October, the plant has begun producing its Italian owner's signature "Petalo" flake.

Spanish news notes that the country's recycling sector accounts for approximately 25% of green jobs, employing more than 140,000. In the community of Valencia, the figure is approximately 10% of all environmentally linked jobs, including the 50 staff responsible for running the refurbished Chiva plant. In Italy, Dentis operates a PET recycling facility in Sant'Albano Stura with an annual capacity of 40,000 t, the equivalent of around 1.3 bn bottles.
