PE-based foil offers sustainable alternative for packaging butter
Clondalkin Kirchberg, the Swiss subsidiary of Dutch packaging group Clondalkin (Amsterdam; www.clondalkingroup.com), has launched a PE-based, aluminium-free foil for butter packaging.

The company said the film-based foil is a sustainable alternative to the traditional aluminium or aluminium-based laminates which have provided the best dead-fold required for filling lines to date. The new butterfoil, which Clondalkin said provides excellent dead-fold, can be printed with up to 10 colours.

Sander Kool, commercial director of Clondalkin Kirchberg, said: “Our customers are constantly seeking more environmental-friendly solutions as a result of consumer demand. These requirements mean that we must look at reducing the carbon footprint of our product range, down gauge materials, reduce waste, consider the ease of recyclability and introduce alternative materials. This is now central to our business operations and the products that we develop.”

The company said this launch follows on from its pioneering development of PET lidding and is another step towards improving sustainability for its customers.
