CITADEL PLASTICS
US composites specialist buys The Composites Group / Integration of Tetra-DUR now finalised
In a deal the financial details of which were not disclosed, Citadel Plastics Holdings (West Chicago, Illinois / USA; www.citadelplastics.com) has acquired The Composites Group (TCG, Highland Heights, Ohio / USA; www.thecompositesgroup.com) from investment group Highlander Partners (Dallas, Texas / USA; www.highlander-partners.com). This is Citadel’s second acquisition this year, following its purchase of Lucent Polymers (Evansville, Indiana / USA; www.lucentpolymers.com) in January – see Plasteurope.com of 21.01.2014.
TCG is made up of three companies, including resin and SMC/BMC specialist Premix (North Kingsville, Ohio / USA), processor Hadlock Plastics (Geneva, Ohio / USA) as well as Quantum Composites (Bay City, Michigan / USA), which specialises in developing structural parts for the automotive and aviation industries, among others. Together, the three companies have a workforce of 130 and a combined production space of about 11,000 m².
TCG’s reach also extends into Europe and Asia, where it collaborates with license partners Polynt (Scanzorosciate, Bergamo / Italy; www.polynt.it) and Dainippon Ink (Tokyo / Japan; www.dic-global.com).
Thanks to its 2002 acquisition of resin and duroplastics manufacturer Bulk Molding Compounds (BMCI, West Chicago, Illinois / USA; www.bulkmolding.com), Citadel also owns BMC producer Tetra-DUR Kunststoff-Produktion (Seevetal / Germany; www.tetra-dur.com). While the US group initially had acquired only 60% in the company, a few weeks ago it announced that it had integrated Tetra-DUR, which has a nameplate capacity of 19,000 t/y, into the group.
