Ethylene capacity expansion in Texas brought on stream
Chevron Phillips Chemical (CPChem, The Woodlands, Texas / USA; www.cpchem.com) has completed the ethylene expansion at its Sweeny complex in Old Ocean, Texas / USA. The upgrade adds more than 90,000 t/y of C2 capacity at the site, which CPChem said can now turn out close to 2m t/y of ethylene.
The added capacity is part of the company’s plans to start up its US Gulf Coast Petrochemicals Project, due for commissioning in 2017. The plans include an ethane cracker in Cedar Bayou as well as two PE lines in Old Ocean – see Plasteurope.com of 07.04.2014.
